Kids Koala Engraved Night Light Using Cricut Maker

Hey crafters! Today, we're diving into a fun and creative project using the Cricut Maker: crafting an Engraved Acrylic Night Light for kids. It's a perfect blend of technology and artistry, creating a personalized touch for your little one's space.

To get started, we'll be using elements from Cricut Access to design our night light, featuring a charming koala sleeping on the moon and a custom font called "Dear John." Follow along as we guide you through each step, from preparing your design in Cricut Design Space to engraving on the acrylic sheet. Let’s light up those nights with creativity! 

Materials:

• 3D LED Night Light Base with Clear Acrylic Blank
• Cricut Maker Machine with Engraving Tip plus Housing
• Cricut StrongGrip Cutting Mat (purple)
• Masking tape

Directions:

Prepare Design:

Create your design in Cricut Design Space or go directly to this project. I'm using the following elements included with Cricut Access:

• Koala Sleeping on the Moon - #M4466D475
• Dear John (Font)

Start by ensuring your design fits within the dimensions of your particular blank. Use the "Attach" function in Design Space to keep your design elements together as one unit. This ensures your engraving stays aligned correctly. Finally, make sure the design is set to engrave.

Make the Project:

Remove the film from the acrylic blank. Use masking tape to secure the blank to a Cricut StrongGrip Mat along all edges.

Position your design on the mat either by eyeballing it or using a template. You can create a template by placing a cut-out or guide on your mat to help position the acrylic sheet accurately.

Install the engraving blade into the clamp B of your Cricut Maker. Ensure it's securely in place.

In Design Space, select "Browse All Materials" and choose "Acrylic" as your material type.

Load your prepared mat into the Cricut Maker. The machine will check for mat alignment and readiness. Begin the engraving process. The Cricut Maker will engrave your design onto the acrylic sheet.

Post-Engraving Cleanup:

After engraving, remove the acrylic blank from the mat. Use a lint roller or a bit of masking tape to remove any debris left by the engraving process. Then insert your blank into the lamp base and enjoy!
