DIY Wall Hanging with Cricut Explore Air

DIY Wall Hanging with Cricut Explore Air

Head on over to Craft-e-Corner Cricut Community Facebook Group for more inspiration and education!

You guys, I’m so excited to share this DIY with you because it’s super simple, cute and a quick project! And the best part? I didn’t have to buy any extra supplies for this project. I had everything I needed around my house and I bet you have a lot of it too! Basically all I’m doing for this project is drawing on a piece of paper and attaching it to some wood. Simple, right?

Materials:

  • Cardstock Paper
  • Cricut 0.4 Fine Point Pen (Black)
  • Wood lath (for frame)
  • Twine
  • Glue
  • Stapler & staples
  • LightGrip cutting mat
  • Cricut Explore Air

To get started, this specific hand drawn flower can be found in Cricut Access. The ID is #M9C1867E. It’s a super pretty cartridge; you should definitely check it out!

To get started, insert at 0.4 fine point pen into your Cricut. I am using a black pen, but you can definitely use any color. My piece of paper is a muted green color, so I wanted to flower to be black. And if you’re wondering, this black 0.4 pen is the one that comes with your Cricut machine when you first buy it — so you may already have this pen on hand!

Once you have it inserted, size the flower design in Design Space to the correct dimensions for your paper and then get drawing. Then apply your card stock paper to a light grip cutting mat. Then you can get drawing. It will take a bit to draw, so you can stand back and watch as the Cricut does it’s thing! Aren’t you glad you aren’t the one drawing?

Once it’s finished drawing, carefully remove the paper from the mat. I like to flip the mat over and bend the mat away from the paper. Otherwise you may bend your paper and then it may ruin the project.

Once you have it removed, cut the paper to the correct size. My paper is just under 12 inches wide, probably around 11.5 inches.

Then we are going to get the wood prepared. For this project, I am using pine lath that I found at Menards (which is just like a Lowes or Home Depot if you aren’t familiar). It’s just a thin piece of wood that is perfect for this kind of project. I cut mine to size, about 12.5 inches wide. You can also have a worker at Lowes or Home Depot cut it for you.

Next, we are going to attach the paper to the wood. I used wood glue to attach the paper to the wood. Simply apply a small strip of glue on the paper -- you don't want to do too much or you may risk it spilling out on your paper. Then repeat this for the other piece of wood. Let it dry completely.

Then when that’s done drying, cut a piece of twine and staple it to the top piece of your wood — then you’re all finished!

Again, make sure that you let the glue completely dry before hanging it up. But other than that, there you go! I told you it was a simple and quick project. And I'm really loving this hand drawn flower designs in Cricut Access. They're my new favorite!

Do you have a video or tutorial on how to draw on wood using Cricut Air 2 Explore and Cricut markers. I have looked and cannot find anything. If you can cut wood, shouldn’t you be able to draw on it for svgs too intricate to cut? Any help would be much appreciated.
