Colorful Felt Coasters (including Free Pattern!)

Supplies:

  • Felt in your choice of colors
  • Embroidery floss and needle
  • (These DMC floss colors are used in the sample project: 151 Very Light Dusty Rose; 720 Dark Orange Spice; 597 Turquoise; 335 Rose; 741 Medium Tangerine; and 307 Lemon.)
  • Fabric marker with disappearing ink
  • 5mm pom poms (optional)
  • Pattern A
  • Pattern B

Directions:

Print, then cut out, patterns.

Pin pattern pieces to felt or trace around pieces using a fabric marker.  Cut out the felt designs using sharp scissors.  Also cut two 5×5-inch pieces for the tile background and the tile base.  Pin pieces to the tile background for embroidery.

Secure loose pieces to the tile background using an overhand stitch.

Draw details using the fabric pen and embroider using a basic back stitch.

Outline the main design using a basic back stitch.

Create a lazy daisy stitch at the center of the tile.

Add any additional stitching to the tile that you’d like.  Pin the tile top to the tile base.  Sew together using a blanket stitch.  Attach a tiny pom pom to each of the 4 corners of each coaster if desired.
